Our Characters is our opportunity to feature the most valuable people in our business…you! While we take great pride in the product we make, it is nothing without the spaces that Our Characters are creating.
Tell us a bit about yourself!
Jamey Gill from Lake County (located in Northern California), where I have lived most of my life (I also lived in Australia for a few years!). I love being outside, DIY projects (especially if they include upcycled, rustic design), spending time with my family (my husband and I have two sons, their initials are JAG and CAG – thus the name of my business), gardening, and stamping inspirational metal jewelry. Jag Cag Design is a passion of mine, but I’m also the Executive Director for the Blue Zones Project in Lake County, CA.
What got you into interior design?
I’ve always loved creating beautiful home spaces. After we lost everything we had to the California Valley Fire, we were unable to rebuild, and had to purchase a home that was already built. At first, it felt really hard to make this new space our own. But then I embraced the opportunity to be creative in new ways, since we had to start from scratch. I guess you could say that I love “design on a dime”; having to make do with fewer options makes for a more creative spirit!
Which room of your house is your favorite, and why?
I love every part of our house, but these days I am really drawn to our new chicken coop. We built it with wood that we milled from the trees that burned on our property (when our home burned). I know, that really isn’t a part of our house per se, but it’s a fun place to hang out and relax! Inside the house, I love being in our kitchen. We remodeled it with our milled wood, and I still can’t believe it is ours!
What’s your favorite part of working on a new project?
I love the whole process of watching a project come to life, start to finish! My husband is great at sketching out my design ideas, and that’s fun to see. Part way through, it’s awesome to see the progress. And when we finish…. Well that is SO rewarding!
What made you choose Steel Lighting Co.?
I love the quality of these light fixtures, as well as the fact that they are made in California. I also love the versatility of being able to mix and match colors, shades and arms — you can come up with something totally unique! Plus, it is great for both inside and outside of your home!
